‘Earthrise’ the iconic photo released in 1968 from Apollo changed our perception of our place in space. The image unified a call for greater understanding of ‘Mothership Earth’ and how mad is it that we are still at the beginning of that journey in many ways, navigating and understanding how fragile and vulnerable our intertwined ecosystems are.
LEFSON: 'We recorded a few simple strokes in a soft blue, but when a dot created the eye in the circle, I immediately stopped the pig. I knew there was a form, a face even, but what was it? I’d always had a fondness for birds and books like Richard Bach’s Jonathon Livingston Seagull had always inspired me. That was enough. I simply combined my love for both, choosing innocence in naming the artwork.'
